Anaconda, Montana

Anaconda, Montana, is a town in southwest Montana's Deer Lodge National Forest, known for its rich mining history and outdoor recreation opportunities. Founded by Marcus Daly in 1883 to house workers for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company's smelter. The smelter shut down in 1980 and the towns economy was majorly impacted. Today, Anaconda is a community with a population of about 6,500, serving as the county seat of Anaconda-Deer Lodge County. New business's are moving in and thriving, as more visitors are enjoying the outdoor recreation of Montana, and learning about the history of Anaconda, Montana.
